Day Trip:-Lake Challa

Lake Chala is located 30 minutes drive from Himo town. Although situated outside the Moshi, the lake is an important geological. It draws its water via underground streams that originates from the glacier of the Mount Kilimanjaro. This lake can be visited prior to, or after climbing the mountain.

Lake Chala is the deepest inland water body in Africa with depth of about 3000 m that straddles the Kenya/ Tanzania border. The lake is amazingly clear with steep crater walls and is home to the critically endangered endemic Lake Chala Tilapia.

Lake Chala Safari Lodge is beautiful area of some 700 Hectare located on the western side of Kilimanjaro about 1 hours drive from Moshi that includes the whole of the Tanzanian side of the lake shore, spectacular views of the Mount Kilimanjaro and a meteorite crater.

The area has been maintained in its natural condition and being developed into a conservation area. Aside from plenty of Fish Monitor Lizard, Baboons, monkeys, antelope and other animals can be seen as well as elephants during the dray seasons.

Visitor can hike at the Lake, including guided bird watching and meteorite crater and water hole tours or just relax and enjoy the beautiful views and fresh air.
